WELCOME!
Thank you for visiting my web-site! This really has been such a long process to get it up and running . Periodically, I will be posting design tips for you, running special promotions,( see seperate post for a Home & Garden Show Coupon that I wanted to share with you)and keeping you informed of any free design seminars that I will be speaking at that you can attend and gather some additional design tips!I will be adding a tab to the web-site , “Before & After Gallery”, soon. I had a photographer planned to shoot some residential and commercial spaces that I had designed and then had a car accident! Once we get past the Home & Garden Shows this spring, I will be rescheduling those shoots.
Interior Style has hired two Buffalo State College interns to assist with getting me organized in return for hands on training in the design world! Courtney Schrantz and Jowita Szeliga , sophmores, will be with me at the shows , client appointments and may be calling you to update some client information soon. Please welcome them!
As you may have already heard and/or read about, I will be speaking for the third year at the WNY Home & Garden Show out at the Hamburg Fairgrounds In February along with setting up a booth . The seminar is a 30 minute “How To” that will give you some very basic design tips that you can bring home and start moving things around in your home for a new look! It’s called ” The 5 Key Components to a Beautiful Room” Visit my seminar and get a free gift while supplies last!…..New this year ,I have been asked to decorate an entire house that is going to be built in the center of the Agri-Center’s floor for the show. This proves to be a bit crazy since I only have 3 and 1/2 weeks to complete it and the home will not be built until 2 days before the show opens! I have many Buffalo retail vendors that have loaned or donated product for the house so it should be spectacular! Please come and see me at the show! I will be floating at either my booth, on stage or at the house……..it would be great to see you!
I also have added a NYS Realtors License to my repertoire. It just seemed like the thing to do. I have a Staging Consultation on my design menu and have been helping people sell their homes along with helping people make it their own and decorate once they move in, so why not offer assistance in between? I thought that it would be cool to have a designer help throughout the entire process, especially when buying. Just like it may seem hard to envision what that new carpet will look like, can you imagine the thought of seeing past old counters, cabinets, exterior elements, etc.? As I shop with you we discuss the homes’ potential. Many things can be addressed with a coat of paint. You would be surprized how much can change. It is not always necessary to think that the entire slate has to be wiped clean. Maybe that crazy counter can be paired with something to make it look like you put it there!
DESIGN TRENDS & TIPS
Accessories
Well, the holiday decorations should pretty much be all down and boxed up by now! I laugh…. I just put a grapevine reindeer away myself!
One of the biggest trends lately is ”LESS IS MORE”……. I am seeing this trend in accessories especially. Before you put back all those chochkeys in your rooms……. EDIT FIRST! Do not put everything back on that shelf or piece of furniture! Evaluate the condition of that floral arangement, if it is dusty and worn, time to retire that piece. Maybe you have too many photos framed on all your tables, some on the mantel, some on the sofa table, etc. Here is a design principle to make note of- Each space needs to have both stimulating and resting visuals. If we see chochkeys on an end table, then our eye moves to more chochkeys on the coffee table, then on to the mantle, etc. , it is over stimulating to our minds . We need areas that rest the eye. The trend of less is more has been around now for a few years and I think that the economy is another driving force behind this movement. The idea here is to reduce quantity to pieces that absolutely bring you joy. If you still end up with a significant quantity of things that you can’t let go, try gathering them all together in one spot and let them be a focal point. So in the case of those framed photos, set them ALL on ONE table or ONE mantel and leave the other tables and surfaces free of anything extra. That will allow your eye to focus on the frames all together as one big item and settle your eye as you glance over the empty end table. I know that that empty end table may seem odd to you for a bit, but trust me, you will get used to it and will find that your rooms look more pulled together!
Have Fun Re- Arranging!
